History:

Collaroy is in the Northern Beaches Council. The Caregal or Garigal people of the Guringai country are the original inhabitants of the Northern Beaches and Pittwater area.

Community profile:

Collaroy is a suburb close to the Eastern coastline. The Northern Beaches is a multicultural area with an emphasis on community engagement.

Design resolution:

The design of a new generation boarding house was privately commissioned in 2016. The brief was to use the site efficiently to ensure the maximum number of dwellings was accommodated. The lodgment of a boarding house project is always contentious and this project was no exception. The backlash from local residents saw numerous revisions and conversations take place.

The final approved proposal consists of 10 boarding units (including 1 accessible). Other facilities include common rooms (which can cater to a maximum of 19 residents), amenities and private balconies for Level 1 units. Each boarding unit will have their own kitchenette, built-in cupboard and ensuite. The boarding house provides 5 car parking spaces (including 1 accessible), 2 motorcycle parking spaces and 3 bicycle parking spaces.
