Community profile:

Picton High School is a government secondary school with a co-educational student population and comprehensive curriculums. It was established in 1958. Alongside academia, the school has a focus on vocational education and training.

Design resolution:

In July 2020, Shakeup Architecture were engaged to design and document the proposed upgrade of the existing multi-function hall. Shakeup Architecture worked closely with the stakeholders and specialist teaching staff to ensure compatibility of the design to the different disciplines being taught in the same space. Special consideration was given the materials and finishes to ensure the long-term viability of the space and reduce maintenance.

The school has a strong performing arts programme and regularly hosts other schools for state performances. Accessibility, acoustics, lighting and thermal qualities were considered to reduce running costs and encourage an array of usages for the space.
